The Dallas Genealogical Society DNA Special Interest Group will meet virtually by Zoom on Thursday, January 21, 2021 beginning at 6 p.m.  DNA SIG Leaders will open the meeting 15 minutes in case you need help with ZOOM.

Topic this month is “So You Want to be a Project Administrator.”  It will feature Mic Barnette who is the administrator of a number of FTDNA Projects.  There will also be discussion on other types of genealogy surname projects.  You may also have questions about how to use the DNA Project you belong to more effectively. We will briefly discuss 2021 DNA news.  Your participation can make this virtual discussion interesting and informing to the group.

  1. Don’t get overwhelmed!  You’ll Never Finish!
  2. Begin with WHO you know-yourself, your parents, grandparents, etc
  3. Pick an ancestral line to follow
  4. Start with what you know-birthdates, birth places, marriage dates and places
  5. Contact living relatives-parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins
  6. Organize your information-file folders, boxes, file cabinets,
  7. Develop a filing system
  8. Always document where you find information
  9. Consider Genealogical Software- free and paid
  10. Always back up your findings with computer back up or paper
  11. Create a TREE- somewhere (paper, online, on computer software, etc)
  12. Consider Genealogical Websites -free and paid
  13. Consider DNA testing
